When did the parking meter suspension take place?
In December 2024 Council resolved the following: That Council suspend parking meter operations from 17 December 2024 until 30 June 2025 to allow for free parking during the festive season and to allow time to undertake a review of parking meter operations within the CBD.
What was the reason for the parking meter suspension?
How is my feedback going to be significant?
All survey information will be considered and provided to Council so a decision can be made whether there will or won’t be meters in the CBD and any other matters.
What factors will the council consider when deciding whether to switch the parking meters back on?
Feedback for businesses and community, economic activity and CBD participation, financial implications.
What will happen if the parking meters stay off permanently?
It is understood that there would still need to be time limits to ensure churn in the CBD, however this will be considered as part of the review process. If this was the case, enforcement would need to occur to ensure cars move after the two hour allocation.
Where did the revenue from parking meters go historically, how much and for what purpose?
The net surplus that comes from parking fees and fines after direct expenses in relation to parking meter operations are deducted, is transferred to the Central Business District (CBD) Reserve for its future development.
