Upgrades to Dudley W Cornell and Haven Recreation Reserves

The Wimmera Multi-Sport Precinct Study, launched in 2021, has been all about reimagining and revitalising sporting facilities across the region. The goal? To create a model for facility upgrades that taps into both council-owned and other available land, blending the enhancement of existing infrastructure—like ovals and courts—with the development of new facilities to meet the growing demands of both current and future sports enthusiasts. With an emphasis on sustainable, accessible sports infrastructure, these proposed upgrades are designed to help various sporting codes flourish, in line with the expectations of State Sporting Associations.
The study uncovered plenty of land to accommodate these exciting upgrades and additions, with the flexibility to stage projects as funding becomes available. This allows for a phased approach that ensures gradual, sustainable growth of facilities, providing high-quality amenities while fostering more participation in the region’s sports scene. Concept plans and rough cost estimates have been developed, and local sporting clubs were actively consulted to ensure the plan aligns with their needs. The Wimmera Regional Multi-Sport Precinct Study was officially endorsed in June 2023, marking a key milestone in the journey to improve the region’s sports infrastructure.
Now, the next step is bringing the vision to life at Dudley W Cornell and Haven Recreation Reserves, where the focus shifts to schematic planning. This stage has been a team effort, with the Horsham Rural City Council collaborating with State Sporting Associations, Sport and Recreation Victoria, local clubs, and other community stakeholders to shape the landscape plans.
To keep the community fully in the loop, listening posts have been scheduled at both reserves, where the proposed plans will be on display for everyone to view and share their thoughts. These listening posts offer an exciting opportunity for locals to engage directly with the process, helping shape the future of sporting facilities in the region.
