Recently Council did some works in the creek that inadvertently prevented the informal crossing between Elmes St and Lake Ave from being usable. Some community members approached Council and asked if we could replace the informal crossing with a bridge. In response to this request we propose to build a boardwalk that will allow pedestrians to once again be able to cross at this point.
Boardwalk
Typical Boardwalk Construction
A boardwalk is an elevated footpath, walkway, or causeway typically built with wooden planks, which functions as a type of low water bridge or small viaduct that enables pedestrians to better cross wet, muddy or marshy lands.
Sample Sketch
Advantages of a Boardwalk :
Protect the ecosystem from ground compaction, erosion and damage due to human movement;
Control the foot traffic by providing an access parallel to the main street;
Ensure the safety of the pedestrians while crossing a waterway.
Location
Proposed Boardwalk for creek crossing along existing trail
The boardwalk will:
Be for Pedestrians and cyclists only
Serve as an all-weather crossing
Preserve the existing ecosystem
Elevate the aesthetics of creek
Help in connecting Elmes Street and Lake Avenue.
